The Sacrament of First Reconciliation is usually received in the 2nd grade for our parish
students. Students actively prepare to receive this sacrament both at home and in the Catholic
school or School of Religion classroom. Curé of Ars Catholic School students prepare for this
Sacrament as part of their 2nd-grade instruction. The students in the School of Religion
generally prepare beginning in 1st Grade (Year 1) and conclude in 2nd Grade (Year 2) for First
Reconciliation/First Communion. The students in both the school and School of Religion
celebrate the sacraments together in 2nd grade. First Reconciliation usually takes place in the
fall.
Parents are the primary teachers of the Catholic faith. This includes attending Sunday Mass as
a family, sharing their faith with their child(ren), and modeling how they live their life as a
follower of Jesus Christ. Teachers/Catechists provide support to the parents by reinforcing the
Catholic faith through evangelization and catechesis.
All children preparing to receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation/First Communion are
required to have a copy of the baptism certificate on file with the parish office. If your child was
not baptized at Curé of Ars Catholic Church, please contact the church of baptism to have the
baptism certificate sent to our parish office by October 10, 2018. The baptism certificate may
either be faxed (913-649-1339) or dropped off at the parish office, Attention: Bernadette Myers.
You may also email a scanned copy of the baptism certificate to BernadetteMyers@cureofars.com.
To register and pay for your child's SOR and sacramental fees starting July 5, please go to: www.wesharegiving.org/.
