“To be truly pro-life, we also must make sure that every child has an environment where he or she can thrive.”
Archbishop Joseph Naumann
There are multiple ways to support families and children who are in or near the foster care system. Currently, the Cure of Ars Foster Care ministry is:
Forming a Care Community
Collecting items or cash donations which support foster families or families at-risk
Promoting respite events for foster families in the area
If interested in learning more about the Catholic church's response and our parish's response to the foster care crisis, please visit the Archdiocesan Office of Foster Ministry or call parishioner, Kristin McArthur 816.719.4350.
Care Communities A care community is a group of parishioners who wrap around a nearby foster family to provide support and prayer. This could be weekly meals, occasional child care, light yard work and help with home maintenance. The Care Community gives a customized response to support what the family needs according to the volunteers’ available time and resources.
Back-to-School Collection for KVC Foster Children During July each year our parish community is given the opportunity to donate backpacks and school supplies which are donated to KVC Kansas who then distributes to foster children.
CarePortal CarePortal is a proven technology platform which posts vetted requests from agencies/organizations in our area allowing us to become aware of and respond to families in need or in crisis. Our Cure’ of Ars CarePortal team, established in fall 2024, reviews the postings and strives to fulfill need(s) at least monthly. Members of this team are given opportunity to get involved in reviewing and contributing to the needs posted on the platform. See current posts at Cure’ of Ars CarePortal website
As we grow in numbers, the hope is to increase our parishioners’ participation in sharing resources to help families in need.
Foster Family Respite Events The Archdiocesan Office for Foster Care Ministry helps parishes in our area promote and put-on events for foster families. In 2024, the Cure’ of Ars Foster Ministry committee and friends volunteered to host our first Respite event. The event gave foster parents time alone when they dropped off their children for an afternoon of activities and a pizza dinner in our Parish Activity Center.
