  • History:

The Our Lady of Peace Council was founded on April 25, 1988, through the efforts of the parishioners of Curé of Ars. It was named after Pope Paul VI declared the Blessed Virgin Mary under the Our Lady of Peace title patron of El Salvador in an Apostolic Letter of October 10, 1966. In the parish church of St. Michael, in the City of San Salvador, there is an ancient statue of the Virgin Mary holding an olive branch which, according to some accounts, was brought there from a shipwreck. In September 1787, the inhabitants of the city attributed to the statue their safety when threatened by a volcanic eruption, and the Virgin has also been looked upon as a model of peace among warring factions in that country's times of troubles. The Curé of Ars Our Lady of Peace Council carries on with the devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ in working closely with the Curé of Ars Parish in Leawood, Kansas providing funds for various projects and with members being active participants in their parish community development.

    Mission Statement:

The Mission of Our Lady of Peace Council 9856, through the intercession of our Lady, is to faithfully serve our families and community following our guiding principles while respecting the life and dignity of all.

    Guiding Principles:

Charity-  Matthew 22:39 “Jesus said you shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, with your whole soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like the first: You shall love thy neighbor as thyself”.  Putting our love into action for the good of others through our service and actions.

Unity- Together we can accomplish far more together than any one of us individually. By working together, supporting each other, and encouraging each other, brother knights make life better for one another, for our parish and our community.

Fraternity- Fr. Michael McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus in large part to aid widows and orphans. In the Knights we watch out for and take care of one another.

Patriotism- We are proud of our devotion to God and to our country. As Knights we stand up for both, reminding the world that we, through our faith, prayers and actions, support our country.

    Weekly Update

For Catholic men 18 and older, the Knights of Columbus offer opportunities for furthering your faith, enjoying the camaraderie of other Catholic men, getting to know more people at Curé, and working on things to help the church and school, seminarians, and those in need of help.  To join the largest worldwide brotherhood of Catholic men simply go to: kofc.org and click on JOIN (select #9856 as your Council) or look us up at cureofars.com under Adult Organizations and Activities. We are looking for a few more Catholic men to join before the end of the fraternal year that ends June 30, so please strongly consider this invitation and join now.
Thanks to all Brother Knights and their family members who volunteered at fish fries and breakfast buffets and especially the ladies who helped with desserts at fish fries and who also helped with desserts and presentation of food for the two Value Them Both presentations.  What a great group to work with and be around.  Anything can be accomplished with good people working together.

Catholic Charities food truck will be in the Curé parking lot and volunteers will be at the truck collecting canned food before and after the 4PM Mass on May 14 and all Masses on May 15 and be there on Sunday until 3:00 PM.

We continue to stay busy helping Father White usually on Saturdays with work at the chicken ranch.  Cleaning and other work that Cure Knights helped with at his lower chicken house allowed Father White to get chicks on schedule at the end of April.  Besides lots of tree trimming the Knights did some work in his two gardens so he could till up the soil to get ready for planting.

The KoC at Cure Council meeting will be Tuesday, May 24 in the Father Burak Room with a social at 6PM, a light meal at 6:30PM, and a meeting starting at 7PM.  Visitors who are eligible to join and want to listen in at a council meeting before potentially joining are welcome to attend.  This month’s council meeting includes the election of officers for the July 2022-June 2023 fraternal year.  If you are a member of the Council at Curé and interested in a council officer or director position, please contact the current officers, Deputy Grand Knight or Grand Knight.
